Leads

Overview

Leads represent potential clients who have expressed interest in your business. They can come from three sources:
  1. Widget submissions — a visitor fills out a contact form or quote request form embedded on your website
  2. Manual entry — you create a lead directly in the app
  3. Import — bulk import from a CSV or external source

Lead statuses

StatusMeaning
NewJust created, not yet reviewed
ViewedYou’ve opened the lead
ContactedYou’ve reached out to the lead
ConvertedLead became a client (linked to a contact)
ArchivedNo longer active, removed from active pipeline

Creating a lead manually

Go to Leads → New Lead and fill in:
  • Name and contact details (email, phone)
  • Source and notes
  • Status

What happens when a widget submission arrives

  1. The visitor submits a form on your website
  2. Financely creates a lead automatically with the submitted data
  3. If the email matches an existing contact in your organization, the lead is linked to that contact
  4. If auto-proposal generation is enabled, a proposal draft is created immediately
  5. The lead appears in your Leads list with status New

Converting a lead to a contact

When a lead is ready to become a long-term client:
  1. Open the lead
  2. Click Convert to Contact
  3. A contact record is created with the lead’s information
  4. The lead status updates to Converted
  5. The contact and lead remain linked

Creating a proposal from a lead

From the lead detail page you have two options:
  • Manual: Click Create Proposal to build a proposal yourself
  • AI-assisted: Click Generate Proposal to have AI create a draft based on the lead data and your product catalog
See Proposals for full details.

Troubleshooting

Make sure your widget is published (not in draft status). Also check that the embed script is correctly placed on your website — the data-org-id and data-widget-id attributes must be present. See Widget Embed for details.
Financely checks for an existing contact by email when a widget submission arrives and links accordingly, but does not deduplicate leads themselves. If the same person submits multiple forms, multiple leads are created. You can manually archive duplicates.
The data captured in a lead depends on the fields configured in the widget that generated it. If expected fields are missing, check the widget configuration under Integrations.
